If one garage door torsion spring is broken, that probably means the other is about to fail, which is why we recommend ordering replacement torsion springs in pairs. We have garage door torsion springs for any wire size or length up to 39 inches. We can fulfill orders for garage door torsion springs longer than 39 inches upon request. Unlike torsion springs, you will usually find garage door extension springs mounted beside the garage door. You will find the mounts parallel to the tracks. Typically, residential garages have one extension spring on each side; however, heavier commercial doors may have more than one garage door extension spring mounted on each side.
Door Weight: (1) Divide the total spring(s) IPPT by the cable drum multiplier
Microsoft 365 plans include premium versions of these applications plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including online storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Microsoft 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including iPad® and Android™ tablet) and phones. Install microsoft office professional plus 2010.
(2) Multiply the spring IPPT by the number of turns, and then divide by the Hi Moment Arm
High Lift: Measure the distance from the top of the closed door to the bottom of the horizontal track
IPPT: Inch Pounds Per Turn. Force spring exerts per 1 turn of the spring
IPPT Required: Multiply the door weight by the Hi Moment Arm, and then divide by the number of turns
Spring ID: Measure the outside diameter, and then subtract twice the wire diameter
Spring Conversion: Always convert torsion springs to a spring of equal or greater wire diameter
Spring Growth-Torsion: Multiply the number of turns by the wire diameter to find spring growth
Spring Stretch-Extension: The stretch of an extension spring is always ½ the door height
Spring Length: Multiply the wire diameter by the total number of coils in the spring
Wire Size: Measure a length of the spring, then divide by the number of coils within that length
Spring Calculation
To calculate torsion springs for overhead doors (all types of configurations) all you have to do is enter the height, width, and weight of the door in question, as demonstrated in the screenshot below:

Once the necessary information is entered, just click the calculate button and the program will display the results,
If the TSC selections are not to your liking, you may enter the desired spring I.D. & wire diameter the software will do the rest!

Spring Conversion
This is the part of the TSC program which deals with converting an existing torsion spring to a new and / or different one.
The TSC program allows for complete flexibility for all the conditions that you may encounter. You may try to design the new spring by changing the inside diameter or the wire diameter, or even both of them at the same time. You may also convert square wire springs to a round wire. This is very advantageous when you wish to replace an existing door spring(s) with a new one, which is available in your inventory.
All you have to do is enter the quantity, wire type and the dimensions of the existing spring(s) followed by the quantity, wire type and the dimensions (except the length) of the springs you wish to replace with.
Special Features
- User definable wire & inside diameters.
- Automatic selection of proper drums.
- Support of Apco & Canimax drums.
- Square wire and round wire support.
- Inclined standard or hi-lift tracks.
- Cable length calculations.
- Full information of springs calculated.
- Detailed report printing.
- Imperial or Metric system support.
- Regular or booster (duplex) spring calculations.
- English or French language support.
- User manual included.
- Spring conversion of any type.
- Door weight estimation for existing spring
